Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad has vowed to investigate allegations of sexual assault on a hospital employee in Sabah.
“We will get to the bottom of it,” he told reporters after attending Parliament’s Health and Well-being Programme today.
However, Dzulkefly said his ministry would avoid jeopardising the police investigation into the matter, adding he would follow through with the outcome of the police probe.
Earlier today, a hospital worker accused authorities of failing to take action following her sexual assault complaint against a medical assistant, who she claims made inappropriate physical contact during a clinical procedure in June.
The 32-year-old administrative staff member at Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 in Kota Kinabalu reported the incident to the Health Ministry and the police but has received little response.
Kota Kinabalu police district chief Kasim Muda confirmed that police had received a report from the victim and opened an investigation under Section 354 of the Penal Code.
The provision stipulates offences related to using criminal force with intent to outrage a person’s modesty and carries a punishment of a maximum of 10 years in jail, caning, fine, or any combination of these.
He also confirmed that the suspect has been questioned and released on bail as the police wait for medical reports for further action.
When asked whether the suspect has been allowed to continue working at the hospital, Dzulkefly refused to comment. - Mkini
