PORT DICKSON: About 50 immigration department enforcement officers arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in September on suspicion of being involved in the “counter setting” syndicate have been transferred to other units.
Immigration director-general Zakaria Shaaban said the officers concerned are no longer serving at the entry control counters at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
“They are all still under MACC investigation. They have been given other duties.
“The department will never compromise with any officers involved in issues of integrity. Firm action will be taken if they are found guilty,” he told reporters at the Malaysian Immigration Academy here today.
Zakaria said the department will give its full cooperation to MACC in investigating any of its suspected personnel.
MACC has uncovered a syndicate involved in bringing foreigners into Malaysia from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Nepal through entry points without proper inspection by the authorities.
The syndicate’s operations came to light after the agency first arrested 12 individuals in the Klang Valley, Penang and Kelantan. - FMT
