Perak cops seek public assistance in RM1.54mil gold robbery case

IPOH: Police are seeking the public's assistance to track down a group of masked men involved in the armed robbery of 4.1kg of gold jewellery worth over RM1.54mil in front of a business premises on Jalan Bendahara here.

Acting Perak police chief Deputy Comm Zulkafli Sariaat, said the incident, which occurred around 9.30am on Tuesday (Nov 26), was captured on a mobile phone by a member of the public at the scene.

According to him, during the incident, the suspects managed to escape with a bag containing 4.1kg of jewellery valued at over RM1.54mil.

"Preliminary checks revealed that all the suspects were men armed with machetes and wearing face masks.

"They fled the scene in three vehicles: a white Volvo, a brown BMW, and a black Toyota Estima multipurpose vehicle (MPV), all with fake licence plates," he said in a statement.

He added that the incident involved two male victims who had just exited a gold processing premises.

He said while the victims were about to place the bag in the trunk of their car, the suspects rushed in, collided with the back of the victims' car, and made off with the stolen jewellery.

"Forensic teams have conducted further investigations at the scene to collect evidence and related items," he said.

"The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code," he said. - Star
