PETALING JAYA: The abolition of the Perikatan Nasional chairman's post was never discussed with or agreed to by PAS, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The PAS president said on Wednesday (Jan 28), that the issue had never been discussed or agreed to, including at a meeting with former Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Jan 16.
This comes following the circulation of an internal letter to the presidents of Perikatan component parties.
"The position of Perikatan should remain and must not be abolished. It should be governed as provided under the coalition's constitution," Abdul Hadi said in a letter addressed to the presidents of Perikatan's component parties.
He added that PAS reiterated its recommendation that the presidential council shout act as an advisory and "regulatory/supervisory" body in safeguarding Perikatan's policies and directions.
"PAS agrees that the jurisdiction of the presidential council may be reviewed by proposing the relevant amendments to the Perikatan constitution, to be recommended by a joint technical committee," he said.
Abdul Hadi also said that the Perikatan supreme council should serve as its executive council to act as an implementing body for administrative and strategic matters.
Earlier Wednesday, a letter from Muhyiddin to the party presidents of Perikatan component parties circulated on WhatsApp groups.
In the letter, dated Jan 27, Muhyiddin said that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had agreed to this during a meeting at Muhyiddin's house on Jan 16.
He said that two councils were mooted during the meeting - a presidential council led by Bersatu and an executive council led by PAS.
He said PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan were also present. - Star
