JOHOR BARU: An internal investigation has been launched after a video emerged showing a motorcyclist being slapped by an off-duty policeman at a petrol station in Taman Perling.
Acting Johor Baru (North) police chief Superintendent Azrol Anuar Nor said the case involved a policeman attached with the district.
"The incident occurred at 6.50pm yesterday, and we have identified the motorcyclist. Efforts are ongoing to trace him to assist with investigations. He did not lodge a police report," Azrol said in a statement today.
Azrol said police viewed seriously any allegation of misconduct involving officers or personnel, adding that firm action would be taken if investigations found any breach of the law, regulations or established codes of conduct.
The 33-second-long footage of the incident was shared on numerous social media platforms.
The policeman was on leave at the time of the alleged episode.
Azrol said the investigation would be conducted transparently, fairly and with integrity. - NST
