MACC summons senior army man over procurement graft case

The MACC today summoned a senior officer from the armed forces to assist in its investigation into the alleged abuse of funds intended for asset procurement.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the officer arrived at the agency’s headquarters in Putrajaya at 11am.

“We called him today to assist in the investigation and started recording his statement at about 11am.

“So far, no arrest has been made, but the process of recording his statement is ongoing,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

Azam added that the senior officer was the only individual summoned today.

Former army chief nabbed

Yesterday, Berita Harian reported that the MACC was investigating a senior officer in his 50s on suspicion of misappropriating funds intended for arms purchases.

MACC’s probe into an alleged army procurement cartel has previously led to the arrest of former army chief Hafizuddeain Jantan, who was slated to take over as head of the armed forces, and his two wives to assist in the investigation.

MACC is also looking into the owners of 26 companies linked to military procurement contracts, which allegedly involve a senior army officer.

On Friday, Bernama reported that MACC had seized gold bars, a high-performance car, and cash in various foreign currencies estimated to be worth RM6.9 million, as part of its investigation.

Several companies are said to have secured high-value military contracts since 2023 through bribes. - Mkini
