JABATAN Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) has warned the organisers of the “Glamping with Pride” event by NGO Jejaka that efforts to normalise LGBT practices violate Islamic teachings, national moral values, and Malaysian law, citing the Syariah Criminal Offences Act and Penal Code.
Authorities, including the police and the Selangor religious department, are closely monitoring and will take stern action if laws are breached.
The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has also strongly rejected any attempts to “normalise LGBT culture” ahead of the planned “Glamping With Pride” event by NGO Jejaka in Hulu Langat on Jan 17 to 18, 2026.
MAIS chairperson Senator Datuk Salehuddin Saidin described such programmes as contrary to Islamic teachings, Malaysian law, Eastern values, and societal norms, urging Muslims to avoid participation or support and encouraging those involved in LGBTQ+ lifestyles to seek rehabilitation.
Selangor Islamic affairs executive councillor Fahmi Ngah stated police have been directed to monitor, investigate, and enforce action if illegal elements arise.
The organiser of the event insists the private retreat focuses on wellbeing, peer support, and health awareness. It says it will proceed legally despite opposition from groups like Selangor PAS and warnings from JAKIM. – Focus Malaysia
