PAS’ until death do we part doctrine draws criticism from netizens

POWER tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. But can the same be said to a political party whose foundation is claimed to be built from Islamic principles and values.

We can only hope that the answer is no. However, a netizen recently drew quite the attention with his post on X, highlighting the words of PAS Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan who said that the main positions in PAS are usually held until death.

Netizen @SyedAkramin pointed out that even Prophet Muhammad gave his position over to Abu Bakar when he became infirm.

So shouldn’t the highest officials from PAS who claim their link to the divine take a leaf from the prophet’s book?

We will never understand and neither will the netizens in the cyberspace as can be seen in their comments.

“This Taki is really funny. Do the people who wait decades for years for the main position need to pray for the holder of the main position to quickly die?” said @ZezeoneAna.

Also, netizen @hunterz098761 said there are no positions that last forever on earth. Even the position as slave to Allah has its expiration date which is death.

“PAS seems to have forgotten what the real role of the party was established for. What is wrong is not the party, but the greedy nature of the people within it,” he added.

Another netizen wondered if the holders of these positions are so old that they are unable to continue fulfilling their role, do they still hold on to it if their followers forced them to?

“Just like the dictatorships in Russia, Korea, Sudan, Iran. All these gangs are riding on fanatical ideologies,” said @UthRsm.

There is also this interesting comment from @ArsyadHass90566:

To recap, Takiyuddin Hassan made the remark sometime back in July 2025 regarding speculations on whether PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang will step down or remain at the helm of the party.

“From our close observation, there should not be an issue of Tok Guru not wanting to contest. There has never been, only assumptions from certain parties that they may see Tok Guru as unwell and so on,” he reportedly said. — Focus Malaysia
