Two PN component Youth chiefs have voiced resistance to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s call for coalition leaders to urgently convene a supreme council meeting and reaffirm the appointment of its new chairperson.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, MIPP Youth chief Justin Prabakaran said that, contrary to Hadi’s call for an urgent meeting, individual component parties should first be given time to deliberate on the matter following Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as PN chairperson.
“Let the components be ready before any urgent meetings,” Justin said when contacted.
Elaborating, he said, “Respect for consensus is essential, and the coalition requires a chairperson who is moderate, inclusive, and able to work cohesively with all components in Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society.”
“There is a process to be followed, and I hope that all components will work together in that spirit,” he said, adding that MIPP’s central committee meeting is scheduled for Jan 24.
Hadi calls for urgent PN meeting
In a Jan 10 letter to PN supreme council members, Hadi, the deputy chairperson, said the urgent meeting must be called to confirm Muhyiddin’s resignation and appoint a replacement, believed to be from PAS.

“For the purpose of the continuity of the PN administration, I, as the PN deputy chairperson, am of the opinion that an emergency meeting should be called immediately, in accordance with Clause 8.3(I)(b) of the PN constitution,” he said.
“It is hoped that this matter will be taken into consideration and appropriate action will be taken, considering that it has been more than 10 days since the effective date of the resignation,” he added.
Hadi had previously declared PAS’ readiness to take over the PN chairperson’s post, but the party has yet to decide on whether the candidate must be an ulama (cleric) or from among its professionals.
Muhyiddin’s resignation was effective Jan 1, 2026.
‘Bersatu will take stand in PN meeting’
Separately, Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham also urged Hadi to respect other PN component parties.

“Bersatu itself will take several stands in the (PN) supreme council meeting, which will be held soon.
“The same goes for PAS and other components like Gerakan and MIPP,” Hilman was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
Apart from Hadi, the other PN deputy chairs are Gerakan president Dominic Lau, MIPP president P Punithan, and Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin.
Last Dec 30, PN Youth, which also included Gerakan Youth chief Lee Boon Shian, said that any decision regarding the coalition’s leadership must be referred to, discussed, and approved by the PN supreme council.
However, PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden did not endorse the Dec 30 statement. - Mkini
