The study on the need to revive the Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) and Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examinations will be conducted this year, with the findings to be presented to the cabinet as soon as possible.
As such, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek urged all quarters to give the Education Ministry time to comprehensively study the matter, including consulting key stakeholders, especially parents.
“The mandate has been given to the National Education Advisory Council (NEAC), with the ministry conducting a thorough review before explaining the findings to the public and tabling them before the cabinet. Give us some time,” she told a press conference after opening the new SJKC Ladang Regent Elmina, today. Also present was Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.
Last week, Fadhlina said the ministry had reactivated the NEAC to study the need to revive the two examinations.
UPSR was abolished in 2021, followed by PT3 in 2022, and both were replaced with school-based assessment.
Meanwhile, Fadhlina reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to addressing bullying in schools, saying that all parties will sign a Student Protection Policy as a pledge to safeguard children.
The ministry is also finalising the Sekolah Sejahtera Sekolah Selamat Manual to be shared with parents and the public, she said.
In another development, Fadhlina said three of four schools in Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, damaged by a storm in October last year, resumed classes today, while the remaining school is expected to fully reopen next month.
Earlier reports quoted Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari as saying repairs to four schools in Sijangkang affected by the Oct 15, 2025, storm would be completed within three months. The Education Ministry allocated RM10.1 million for repair works.
The storm, described as one of the worst in Selangor in four years, damaged four schools, a community hall, and approximately 40 houses.
