PADANG RENGAS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made his stance clear against anyone daring to embezzle government funds, warning that such actions would face strict consequences.
He said the country cannot remain stagnant while certain people, especially leaders, are perceived as seeking personal wealth through government money.
"I will not allow anyone to use government funds to embezzle. I won't permit it. If you try, if you dare, just watch. You do it. We will arrest you, bring you to court, and maybe you'll end up in my room in Sungai Buloh.
"What is non-negotiable is that we do not embezzle money. We don't want Malaysia to repeat stories where leaders enrich themselves. I will not tolerate it.
"As long as I have the mandate, don't even try. People can say whatever they want, but I want parents and fellow citizens to believe that we will ensure this country is on the right path," he said.
Anwar made the remarks during his speech at the Santuni Madani Programme and Ihya Ramadan celebration at the Al-Taufiqiah Mosque hall in Kampung Chuar today.
Also present was Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
He said he does not hold grudges, even though he was once detained at Kamunting Detention Camp and now serves as Prime Minister, working to help the people, especially the poor.
"Say what you want, I am not here to hold grudges. If I wanted revenge or to be angry, just tell me. I was at Kamunting before, and now, by Allah's will, I am prime minister. So I do the work to help the poor.
"The funds we have are trust funds. Help as much as you can, also for Islam. Never before have allocations for Islamic education been as substantial as now, with RM2.6 billion for Jakim and Islamic activities.
"Remember back in 2003, the prime minister at that time stopped all allocations for rakyat religious schools. I became prime minister in November 2023, and by January I reinstated funding for religious schools.
"Last year we increased allocations, and recently I announced another RM200 million to repair all religious schools, especially rakyat religious schools in our country," he said.
At the event, Anwar also announced an initial allocation of RM2 million for additional infrastructure development at Masjid Al-Muttaqin, Padang Rengas.
The ceremony also included contributions to 28 mosques in the Padang Rengas parliamentary constituency totaling RM140,000; RM200,000 to Sekolah Agama Bantuan Kerajaan (SABK) Maahad Yahyawiah; and RM60,000 to Dapur Madani.
Anwar also reminded the public not to create problems by stirring racial hatred, which could distract from working for the benefit of the people.
"Don't create problems among ourselves, don't hate others. Don't hate Chinese, don't hate Indians, don't fight but fail to do the work.
"Recently, there were issues regarding temples. I emphasise that temples must follow regulations. We follow the rules, so others must follow them too.
"That's all we ask, but don't fight. Don't let us be divided. Instead, let's carry out our work properly," he said. - NST
