Bersatu Youth reclaims party's official FB page, cries 'sabotage'

Bersatu has regained control of the party’s official Facebook page after a series of postings that followed the sacking of party deputy president Hamzah Zainudin and 16 others.

The incident was discovered on Friday evening as the Bersatu disciplinary board announced its results, with a first post alleging abuse of power influenced by party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

The attacks against Muhyiddin continued throughout the day while also openly backing Hamzah, and at one point, the Facebook page’s banner was replaced with an image of the two leaders facing off.

Further, the page also leaked screenshots of internal conversations among Bersatu leaders, with one in particular that showed how Muhyiddin had personally shared the disciplinary board’s decision against Hamzah in a supreme council group chat.

Bersatu Youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid, in a statement, said full access was recovered and returned to party officials at 12.41am today.

“Without disclosing the methods or approaches used, account access was revoked for the four administrators involved during the period of sabotage.

“Management of the account has since been restored to Bersatu officers,” he said.

“This incident proves that there were indeed ‘thorns in the flesh’ among a small group of members,” claimed the Balik Pulau Bersatu division chief.

21 posts in 15 hours

Prior to regaining access, the Facebook page had last posted about the dissolution of the Lembah Pantai and Larut divisions, while earlier posts included an image of Muhyiddin with a demand for his resignation.

According to Harris, the page administrators uploaded 21 posts in over 15 hours, containing alleged “sabotage” elements that portrayed Hamzah in a positive light while targeting Muhyiddin.

He also named four administrators allegedly responsible for the purported sabotage, including Hamzah’s special officer, Ahmad Ikhwan Fadhli, and Meor Naqiuddin Shamsudin, who is a special officer to sacked supreme council member Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

He further accused Ikhwan of removing six other administrators, including Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, Muhyiddin’s media officer Ikhmal Abu Bakar, and Bersatu supreme council member R Sanjeevan.

Malaysiakini has contacted Ikhwan for comment.

Resolving Bersatu’s ‘biggest problem’

Meor told Malaysiakini, “Alhamdulillah, Bersatu’s biggest problem has been resolved – regaining access to the party’s official page.

“For the record, I was removed as an administrator on Feb 13 afternoon without any notice,” he said, adding, however, that he was promptly reappointed by Ikhwan.

“As a Bersatu Youth exco member, I am grateful to have been reappointed as an administrator of the party’s official page.

“It is a recognition that Harris has long hoped for. Today, he finally received that recognition,” said Meor, who remains a Bersatu member.

In a jab at Harris, Meor claimed the number of administrators of Bersatu’s official page now exceeds the number of MPs supporting Muhyiddin.

Hamzah has so far claimed to receive the support from 19 out of 25 Bersatu MPs, 16 of whom had signed a statement endorsing a call for Muhyiddin’s resignation as president.

Previously, Tun Faisal had warned of police action against perpetrators accused of hijacking the Facebook page. - Mkini
