PEOPLE DO the darndest thing to lose weight. While some will make do by eating less, others head over to the extreme by inducing vomit or even swallowing tapeworms in an attempt to get the shape of their dreams.
But when we think these “methods” are crazy enough, we are yet again flabbergasted by the latest trend that hit the internet.
Apparently, teenagers in China are now trying to trick their bodies by putting plastic wraps inside their mouths. Food is introduced into the mouth, and they would briefly chew it while it is encased in the plastic. Then it is spat out.
We can only shake our heads in disbelief as we watch a video post on X which highlights this bizarre trend. The video can be found at: https://x.com/mynewshub/status/2024439963191038273
“Body image pressure is real, but this is extreme,” said netizen @AlexaGrace34110 in the comment section of the post. “It’s easy. Just don’t eat at all,” said a sarcastic @sunckc75.

The picture comments are equally interesting:
But on another note, where did this “trend” originate from? According to Yahoo Life, this plastic eating trick gained momentum in China, or more specifically on Tik Tok.
The idea apparently is that simulating eating while using plastic wrap may trick the brain into believing that the individual has actually eaten. It appears this is done to prevent weight gain and reduce the chances of obesity.
“However, the effectiveness of this trend remains unproven, and, worse of all, it may result in serious health issues or eating disorders,” said Yahoo Life.
The video has since gone viral, garnering a good number of likes, comments and bookmarks. However, most of the netizens criticised the trend, and for good reasons. —Focus Malaysia
