KUALA LUMPUR: Parts of the nation's longest Ramadan bazaar in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang, Selangor, were damaged following heavy rain and strong winds this evening.
Videos circulating online showed tents, food, beverages and equipment along the 1.4km stretch being blown over and drenched, as traders and customers sought shelter under tents that remained standing.
Traders were also seen attempting to salvage their equipment after the storm struck on the first day of fasting.
The bazaar, commonly known as Bazar Ramadan Santai, drew visitors from across the Klang Valley.
In a series of videos posted by TikTok user @chefazreen86 today, calm weather conditions turned violent within minutes. Strong winds shook the tents and heavy rain soaked the entire site.
Meanwhile, TikTok user @ayunabilaazizi shared a video showing her and her family caught in the downpour as they left the bazaar on a motorcycle.
Earlier, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecast thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds across several states in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as parts of Sabah and Sarawak, until 7pm today.
It said rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour or persisting for more than an hour was expected. - NST
