Turmoil rocks Bersatu as 11 Johor divisions disband

ELEVEN Johor divisions of Bersatu have declared that they are dissolving their respective branches amid escalating turmoil within the party.

The affected divisions are Mersing, Pontian, Johor Bahru, Labis, Simpang Renggam, Sembrong, Pengerang, Tanjung Piai, Ledang, Pulai and Sri Gading.

Speaking on behalf of the division leaders, Pontian chief Datuk Isa Ab Hamid said the move was prompted by what they described as a lack of clear feedback from the party’s top leadership regarding a media statement issued on 27 January.

He noted that tensions within the party intensified following the removal of deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, which was later followed by the dismissal of several Members of Parliament and State Assembly members.

According to Isa, these developments suggest the party has lost its sense of direction, leading to a decline in confidence among voters who once backed Bersatu.

He also cited the failure of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Johor liaison committee chairman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal to unite division leaders as a key reason for their loss of faith in the party, particularly with the Johor state election approaching.

Isa made the remarks during a press conference in Simpang Renggam on Thursday, where he and around 100 members formally announced their resignations.

He added that resignation letters from the affected division chiefs will be submitted soon to Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, and hinted that more divisions may follow suit. —Focus Malaysia
