Passing of ex-CJ a major loss to judiciary and nation

The passing of former chief justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad is a significant loss felt deeply by the judiciary and nation.

The Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court said today that Hamid (above), who served as chief justice from Nov 1, 2007, to Oct 17, 2008, made invaluable contributions to the judiciary during his career.

Chief Justice Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, on behalf of the judiciary and all staff, extended condolences to the family of the late Hamid, who passed away at noon today.

Hamid died at the age of 83 at Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He is survived by his wife, Hamidah Choong Abdullah, and four children.

Before becoming chief justice, he was appointed judicial commissioner on May 1, 1990; High Court judge in 1992; Court of Appeal judge on Sept 1, 2000; and Federal Court judge on Aug 1, 2003.
