In a statement, former Masjid Tanah Bersatu secretary Shahrul Azhar Amir said Mas Ermieyati tendered her resignation during a division meeting today.
Shahrul said several wing chiefs, division committee members, and branch leaders who attended the meeting also submitted their resignations, citing a loss of confidence in Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership.
Mas Ermieyati, the Wanita Bersatu chief, confirmed the matter when contacted by FMT.
She was among the Bersatu MPs who attended a solidarity rally held by former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 14.
She joined several other Bersatu division leaders who resigned from their posts in recent days in protest over the sacking of Hamzah and dissatisfaction with Muhyiddin’s leadership.
Former Dewan Negara president Rais Yatim and former Umno minister Noh Omar were also named among those who had resigned from their posts.
Several divisions have also announced their dissolution since Hamzah and 16 other Bersatu leaders were sacked.
As of yesterday, 26 Bersatu divisions were reported to have been dissolved, including Lembah Pantai, Larut, Kepala Batas, Padang Rengas, and Tanjong. More divisions in Johor and Sabah were later added to the list.
However, Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali has insisted that the party’s constitution does not give any party member, including a division chief, the authority to dissolve a division. - FMT
