MELAKA: Merlimau assemblyman Dr Mohamad Akmal Saleh has denied involvement in three viral TikTok videos allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to manipulate his image and voice to deceive the public with offers of financial aid.
The 18-, 20- and 40-second clips purportedly offer to settle debts, provide business capital and share personal funds with Malaysians in need in conjunction with Ramadan.
Akmal said the videos, circulated since yesterday, are fake and unauthorised.
"All videos currently circulating on social media that use my voice and image and claim to offer to help settle debts, provide business funds and share wealth via TikTok under the names 'dr Akmal Saleehh' and 'dr.akmal.saleehh888888' are fake.
"I have never offered such assistance as portrayed and have never given permission to any party to use my name or image to deceive the public," he said.
He urged the public to verify information before sharing content online and confirmed he only has one TikTok account, one Instagram account and two official Facebook accounts.
He also advised those who encounter or fall victim to the scam to lodge a police report immediately for further action. - NST
