King donates RM2,000 each to 41 families hit by Kampung Teluk Jawa fire

JOHOR BARU: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, graciously contributed RM2,000 to each of the 41 families affected by a fire incident at Kampung Orang Asli Teluk Jawa here on Thursday (Feb 12).

This was shared via a post on the Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar Facebook page on Friday night.

The contributions channelled through Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor (YSIJ) include disaster kits comprising necessities such as electric kettles and rice cookers, foldable mattresses, t-shirts, telekung and mineral water.

YSIJ managing trustee Datuk Avinderjit Singh presented the contributions at the Dewan Muafakat Taman Megah Ria relief centre. Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad was also present.

Meanwhile, Johor Baru district officer Mohd Masni Wakiman and the state disaster management committee chairman expressed their gratitude to His Majesty for the contribution and concern for the affected victims.

"We and several other government agencies will ensure the welfare of all victims is safeguarded at all times and that they are provided with proper accommodation as soon as possible," he said.

One of the victims, Uji Jumaat, 49, expressed gratitude for the contribution from Sultan Ibrahim.

"Nothing could be saved, but with the assistance extended, at least we can continue our lives. Thank you, Your Majesty, for helping us," he said.

On Thursday, Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station chief Deputy Fire Superintendent II Firdaus Ahmad was reported as saying that 30 houses were destroyed in the fire at the stilted village in Kampung Teluk Jawa, involving temporary structures with wooden walls, zinc roofs and wooden floors. - Bernama
