Nurul Izzah mocked for having just “come out of the cave” in her “don’t shoot the messenger” plea

Brickbats have been hurled at PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar following her ‘one week behind’ populist statement backing Bloomberg in that the alleged share ownership by graft buster chief Tan Sri Azam Baki must focus on the allegations itself and not their publication.

That her father and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had on Feb 13 unveiled the Cabinet’s decision to set up a special task force led by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar to probe the matter has painted the impression that the senior economic and financial advisor to the PM has surfaced only after the horse has bolted.

“Welcome out of the cave, deputy president 🥰🥰” jibed one commenter to Nurul Izzah’s TikTok clip which analogise that even football has referee accessors to maintaining high standards in match officiating.

“Finally, the deputy president is out of the cave. Welcome to the real world,” chided another.

Detractors were seemingly uninterested in the former Permatang Pauh MP’s concern that while establishing the special committee is a step in the right direction, the very fact that it only reports to Cabinet means that its findings might not be made known to the public

“The head of such an investigating committee must be completely free and possess integrity. It must also involve representatives from other agencies so that investigations are more open without any perceptions of favouritism,” she stressed.

Over on Astro Awani’s Facebook page, many tended to believe that this is just “father-daughter theatrics” to blur the eyes of Malaysians, possibly to reduce public anger.

Some sensed “something fishy as if a plot twist is brewing” in that “the Sleeping Beauty has woken up” on her father’s order “to whack AB (Azam)”.

As one commenter insinuated, “there’s a need to quickly step on the brakes before Bloomberg makes even bigger revelation/s”.

Some commenters expressed confusion as to who to believe in given “the father is saying one thing and the daughter another” or if this is “merely a wayang kulit (puppet theatre) display” by the PMX household.

“No need to sembnag (shoot the breeze). Just make the arrest so netizens are convinced,” reckoned one commenter with many claiming that this could be part of “a family spin” in view of the upcoming state elections (for Melaka and Johor).

At the end of the day, one commenter regarded Nurul Izzah’s call as “rational and matured” given it is imperative “to investigate the elephant in the room, not the chickens in the barn!”.

However, another wondered if the probe on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner will be limited to his dabbling in shares when Bloomberg has also made a damning exposé on existence of “a corporate mafia network” in Malaysia.
