KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee has urged Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to be like Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and step down.
The Bersatu vice-president said that, unlike Muhyiddin, Dr Mahathir had the class to step down and make way for the Pagoh MP in 2020 after losing the majority support of Bersatu MPs.
Removing Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and 16 others from the party, said Kiandee, was unbecoming of a party president who is trying to hold on to power despite losing grassroots' support.
"Hamzah has the support of 19 Bersatu MPs and 118 division leaders nationwide.
"There are 168 active Bersatu divisions, and we have 118. What does that say for Muhyiddin's support?" said Kiandee.
"However, what happened then (in 2020) did not mirror what happened yesterday (Feb 13) when Muhyiddin axed Larut MP Hamzah.
He also took potshots at Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for supporting Muhyiddin.
Kiandee was speaking at the "reset" briefing event held by Hamzah on Saturday after his dismissal.
On Friday, the Bersatu disciplinary board issued dismissal notices to 17 members, including Hamzah, who is also the Opposition leader.
The Larut MP and others were dismissed from party membership under Clause 22.5 of the Bersatu constitution because the MP's actions violated Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu constitution.
According to Clause 9.1.4, every member must comply with the party's constitution as well as the Party Members' Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. - Star
