Amirudin has crucial role in heading Gaza mission, says Anwar

 Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari has a crucial role in leading the Malaysian emergency aid mission to Gaza as he will be able to facilitate negotiations with the Egyptian government and speed up delivery of aid, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the mission involves large-scale aid shipments and requires several negotiations with the Egyptian government.

“I had initially decided not to send anyone, but since this involves a large number of containers and negotiations with the Egyptian government and its military, I had to appoint a representative holding a government position to help facilitate matters,” he told reporters here after a Madani event.

Anwar said Malaysia’s aid to Gaza takes into account the severe difficulties currently faced by the people there.

Amirudin’s role in representing the government in the Gaza aid mission and the Global Sumud Flotilla delegation was announced by the Selangor MB’s office on Friday.

The mission, organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations, involves the transport of 30 containers comprising 374 tonnes of humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people in Gaza. - FMT
