PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across several states in the peninsula and Sarawak until 9am on Wednesday (Apr 15).
In the north, affected areas include Yan and Kuala Muda in Kedah, as well as Barat Daya, Timur Laut and Seberang Perai Utara in Pulau Pinang.
The warning also covers several districts in Selangor, namely Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang.
Residents in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, as well as the entire state of Melaka, are advised to prepare for severe weather.
In Johor, the districts of Tangkak, Muar and Batu Pahat are expected to experience similar conditions.
For Sarawak, the alert covers Saratok and Kabong in Betong, Sarikei in the Sarikei region and Mukah.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
The notice was officially issued by the department at 5am today.
