Alleged explosion at LRT Kelana Jaya sparks fresh concerns over rail safety

WE Malaysians take pride in many things, food and picturesque nature for example. Public transport has never been high on our achievements.

Regardless, every fellow Malaysian can agree that public transports should at the very least serve the purpose of bringing people from point A to point B without exploding up.

It appears the quality standards for public transportation has yet again been lowered as seen in a recent event.

Separate reports came in from the passengers of LRT Kelana Jaya at Stesen Taman Jaya, where a terrible explosion could be heard. Apparently the train went dark for several seconds and people further claimed they saw sparks flying and explosions below the train.

The incident has since captured the attention of former BN deputy strategic communications director Lim Sian See, better known as Eric See, who made a lengthy remark about it on his Facebook platform.

According to him, some passengers thought they were going to die. A few even cried and were shaking when they exited the train.

His words were echoed by many other netizens such as Kok Poh Ng who said, “During the time Ah Loke sat as the Minister of Transport, there were many LRT/MRT incidents, and many road accidents. Where is the responsibility of the Minister of Transport?”

Saudagar Mimpi further suggested that Wee Ka Siong hold the transport portfolio once more.

“To be honest, lately I am really scared to take the train,” added Hayati Arif.

Then there was a sarcastic Alik Riasadesa Zakaria with his remarks that no action will be taken.

Eric went on to highlight that this was not the first time. He said that In March 2025, Rapid Rail confirmed that an “explosion” incident at the Abdullah Hukum LRT Station was caused by a technical problem with the train’s power collector assembly.

He concludes by calling on Transport Minister Anthony Loke to resign, claiming the public transport situation is deteriorating.— Focus Malaysia
