16 veterans start work as MRSM wardens in anti-bullying initiative

PETALING JAYA: Sixteen former military personnel have begun duties as full-time wardens at selected Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) under an initiative aimed at strengthening student safety, welfare and discipline.

Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the wardens reported for duty on Monday (June 29) and attended orientation and briefing sessions with the respective MRSM management teams.

He said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (July 1) that 16 women wardens, also former military personnel, are expected to begin work next week.

"The wardens are required to attend orientation sessions conducted by the principals to familiarise themselves with the colleges' management structure and regulations, as well as their roles and responsibilities," he said.

Each participating MRSM will have four full-time wardens, two men and two women.

The first phase covers 10 MRSM in Besut and Kuala Berang, Terengganu; Balik Pulau, Penang; Muadzam Shah in Pahang; Kuala Kangsar and Parit, Perak; Bandar Seri Jempol, Negri Sembilan; Kubang Pasu, Kedah; Jeli, Kelantan; and Muar, Johor.

Asyraf said the initiative would be expanded to all 58 MRSM nationwide by next year.

He hoped that the new wardens would carry out their responsibilities with dedication in helping safeguard students' welfare, safety and discipline.

"Hopefully, our aspiration to see all MRSM free from bullying, and achieve zero bullying, will become a reality," he said. - Star
