DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has dismissed talk that he could be named as Pakatan Harapan’s pick to be the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar if the coalition wins the election, but the incumbent Aminuddin Harun loses his Linggi seat.
“All those claims of me being the candidate are nothing more than malicious rumours spread by our political opponents,” Bernama quoted him as saying, while highlighting that he does not meet the constitutional requirement that the menteri besar must be a Malay Muslim member of the state assembly.
He said this in response to Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki’s challenge for Harapan to name an alternative menteri besar should Aminuddin lose the election on Aug 1, positing that Loke could take his place instead.
Loke (above), who is also the Negeri Sembilan DAP chief, said Aminuddin is the coalition’s sole candidate for menteri besar.
Police have launched nine probes connected to the Negeri Sembilan polls, including the unauthorised removals of political party flags.
State police chief Alzafny Ahmad said they received 14 reports and opened nine investigation papers, two of which were filed yesterday in connection with election-related offences, Bernama reported.
Alzafny Ahmad "Both investigation papers were opened under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief causing loss or damage to property," he said in a statement today.
Alzafny explained that these cases involve the removal of political party flags belonging to candidates contesting in the state polls.

Ex-Bersatu leader Wan Saiful Wan Jan has filed a defamation suit against former party colleague Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, who is contesting in the Negeri Sembilan polls.
“Sikamat voters must know this. The Bersatu candidate for Sikamat is someone who is being sued for defamation,” Wan Saiful wrote on his Facebook page today.
Wan Saiful and Tun Faisal have had a public falling out after the former was expelled from Bersatu last year. Tun Faisal is contesting the Sikamat seat against Nor Azman Mohamad of Harapan and Razali Abu Samah of Perikatan Nasional.
The royal commission of inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) should mark the end of the institution’s dark chapter, said the finance minister’s top aide.
Kamil Abdul Munim Kamil Abdul Munim said the RCI report was a significant milestone for the country as it exposed the reality of misappropriation involving an institution entrusted with safeguarding the interests of Muslims and which had been allegedly plundered by certain groups.
"It must be stressed that every ringgit deposited with the institution is not surplus money. Rather, it comes from tapping rubber, working in paddy fields and orchards, driving taxis, running small businesses, and countless other forms of hard labour by ordinary people, all with one great aspiration - to become guests of Allah,” said Kamil.
"Therefore, when such a great trust is handled negligently, what is betrayed is not merely the reputation of an institution, but the hopes and prayers of millions of Muslims who have patiently saved for years," he said. - Mkini
