Government chief secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar says he has ordered immediate measures to resolve several critical service issues affecting the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) in Petaling Jaya.
He said this in a Facebook post this week, which did not mention what measures would be taken or what issues would be tackled.
However, it followed a meeting involving the secretaries-general of the Higher Education Ministry and Health Ministry, the Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor, and the UMMC administrative team this morning.
He said the meeting discussed policy-related issues arising from public complaints, including long waiting times, challenges in clinical services delivery, and issues related to skilled manpower and specialist expertise.
“UMMC is a teaching hospital, and its services are delivered in accordance with its role, capacity, and capabilities,” he said.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says the government will begin work on Budget 2027 next month, ahead of its tabling in the Dewan Rakyat in early October.
