Baharudin, 64, said his son, Muhamad Jafni, was killed after his motorcycle was hit from behind by a foreign driver at a traffic light along Jalan Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari, Puncak Alam, Sungai Buloh, last night.
The food vendor said his third child out of four siblings was on his way home from work when the accident happened.
"At the time of the incident, I was performing Maghrib prayers at the mosque. After that, I returned home to pick up my grandchild, who was going for Quran classes. However, my grandchild told me that my wife had received news that my son had been involved in an accident.
"At the same time, my second child asked my wife and me to go to the scene immediately. He happened to be there, teaching his younger brother to recite the two declarations of faith.
"When I arrived, I immediately went towards my son to see his condition, while also looking for the driver of the car involved in the accident. Fortunately, my family and members of the public calmed me down as I had lost control of my emotions," he said when met at his home in Kampung Sungai Darah, Bestari Jaya, today.
Baharudin said he learnt on the night of the incident that his son, who worked in the solar industry, had passed the engineering certificate.
"My son did not have the chance to share his achievement with us and we only received the sad news.
"Two months before his death, my son expressed his wish to take my wife and me for the haj pilgrimage. He had also received job offers in several countries but turned them down because he wanted to take care of us.
"Last year, my son bought a new Proton Saga to make it easier for me to move around," he said.
Baharudin said Muhamad Jafni showed no changes before his death and was described as a quiet but responsible son who cared for his family.
He said he continued to question why the car hit his son, whom he described as someone who followed traffic rules.
"My family and I only want justice for my son and will take action against the driver involved according to the law.
"His death has left us with lifelong trauma. Because of another person's mistake, my son became a victim," he said.
He also denied that Muhamad Jafni was racing, saying he was on his way home from work.
Muhamad Jafni's remains were buried at 2.30pm today at the Bestari Jaya Muslim Cemetery, after the bathing and shrouding process was carried out at the Al-Sultan Abdullah Hospital, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Puncak Alam.
Meanwhile, Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the victim, who was riding a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle, was hit from behind by a Nissan Almera.
He said the impact threw the victim from the motorcycle, causing serious injuries before he was pronounced dead by a medical officer at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 - NST
