Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali said the man was arrested at 3.40pm today at the Kota Setar district police headquarters traffic station together with his blue Honda EX5 motorcycle.
He said the motorcycle was seized for further investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Syed Basri said police received a report from a complainant at 12.41pm today following the circulation of a 17-second video on Facebook showing a blue Honda EX5 motorcycle, with an unidentified registration number, performing a dangerous stunt by lifting its front wheel while carrying two pillion riders, one seated in front of and the other behind the rider.
He said the report was lodged at the Kota Setar Traffic Police Station to enable police to conduct an investigation.
"Investigations based on the 17-second video uploaded by a Facebook account owner found that the motorcycle was travelling from the Aman Central traffic lights towards the Pekan Melayu traffic lights.
"The incident occurred when the man was travelling from his home in Kampung Hutan Kandis, Mukim Lepai, to Jalan Pegawai for dinner with his family, comprising his 25-year-old wife and their four-year-old daughter.
"The incident is believed to have occurred last Saturday at about 12.30am. Upon reaching Dataran Bandar, near here, the rider performed a dangerous wheelie by lifting the front wheel.
The stunt could have endangered the lives of the rider, the two pillion riders seated in front of and behind him, as well as other road users," he said in a statement. - NST
