PSM candidate declares RM1,600 in BSN, low-cost terrace house

N SEMBILAN POLLS | While many politicians are often associated with accumulating wealth and acquiring assets, PSM continues its practice of requiring all its candidates to declare their assets to ensure transparency and accountability.

PSM candidate for the Rahang state seat, S Tinagaran, declared a net asset of RM206,600 ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election.

Based on a statutory declaration filed before a commissioner for oaths on July 22, Tinagaran has cash and savings of RM1,600 in a Bank Simpanan Nasional account.

For property ownership, he owns a single-storey low-cost terrace house purchased in September 2010, with an estimated current market value of RM180,000.

Besides that, he also owns a Nissan Almera estimated to be worth RM25,000.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, Tinagaran said the main duty of a politician is to serve the people, not accumulate wealth.

“I live a simple life. My goal as a politician is to help the people. Not myself,” he said.

He also challenged other candidates contesting the Rahang state seat to declare their personal assets and demonstrate their commitment to transparency to its constituents.

Regarding his source of income, Tinagaran, who lives in Taman Tuanku Jaafar, Sungai Gadut, with his wife and three children, runs the Samudera Tuition Centre.

The tuition centre owned by his wife, Mariyai Devi Nadarajah, generates a monthly household income of about RM6,000 after deducting operating costs.

In this state election, Tinagaran faces a four-cornered fight against incumbent Desmond Siau (DAP-Harapan), Yap Siok Moy (MCA-BN), and Tang Jay Son (Bersatu).

The Rahang state seat has 19,715 registered voters eligible to vote on Aug 1. - Mkini
