Months after stripping two MPs of their access to constituency development funding through MyKhas, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has reportedly asserted that the money belongs to the people, who will continue benefiting from it.
“The Subang parliamentary seat has another allocation of RM1.6 million. Petaling Jaya has RM3 million. I will ensure that we process and select applications for schools, houses of worship, and whatever else that is necessary.
“So, there is no basis for any politician to say that there is no funding. We have the money; we are not giving it to you, but to the people,” Free Malaysia Today quoted him as saying at an event in Petaling Jaya tonight.
Subang MP Wong Chen and Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung were barred from accessing the MyKhas portal in May, after they made an appearance at a Bersama event.
The move prompted renewed calls to reform how MPs’ constituency services are funded.
Bersama’s former Johor Jaya election candidate Lau Yi Leong continues to press for greater transparency over Johor’s appointment of deputy exco members, despite an explanation from Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
He said making these appointments without legislative backing sets a dangerous precedent, regardless of how limited their administrative powers may be on paper.
Lau Yi Leong Justifying the appointments on the need to drive high-impact initiatives is deeply flawed, Lau argued, as true administrative efficiency should be achieved by empowering the civil service and streamlining bureaucratic processes.
“The primary duty of a state assemblyperson is to act as a robust check and balance within the legislature.
“By absorbing these assemblypersons into the administrative machinery, the state government is actively diminishing the legislature’s capacity to independently scrutinise and monitor the implementation of these very economic plans,” he said in a statement.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has questioned the timing of the upcoming release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry Report on Lembaga Tabung Haji, saying it should have been released sooner because it is a matter of interest to Muslims and of transparency.

BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the coalition plans to create a special officer position to represent the Orang Asli community in the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar's Office if the coalition is given the mandate to form the state government in the coming state election.
This ensures the voices and needs of the Orang Asli community can be channelled directly to the state government.
