IPOH: A 48-year-old woman is being investigated after admitting that she lodged a false police report claiming she had been robbed by two men on a motorcycle in Teluk Intan.
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said an investigation was initiated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to a public servant.
He said the woman lodged a police report on June 30, claiming she was robbed by two men on a motorcycle in a parking area in Taman Ros.
"The complainant claimed that a handbag containing cash and personal belongings was stolen.
"However, an investigation found that the robbery never took place.
"She later admitted to making the false police report due to personal problems," he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 1).
ACP Chua said those convicted under Section 182 of the Penal Code face a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
He said lodging a false police report not only violates the law but also wastes police time, manpower and resources that should be used to investigate genuine criminal cases. - Star
