Pakatan Harapan’s youth wing has outlined five agendas covering matters of interest to the people, including calling on the government to raise the Budi95 quota from 200 litres to 300 litres a month.
Harapan Youth, in a statement today, said the proposal was agreed upon at yesterday’s conference to ease the burden on people who rely on private vehicles to travel to work, conduct business and attend to family needs.
The youth wing also urged the government to review the Budi Madani diesel mechanism to make it fairer, clearer and better suited to the target group.
“The government must ensure that those who are truly in need of assistance are not left out due to weaknesses in the mechanism, registration process or eligibility criteria,” the statement said.
Harapan and DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong, PKR Youth chief Kamil Abdul Munim and Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda issued the joint statement.
It also called for thorough investigations into all allegations of scandal, abuse of power, misappropriation, conflict of interest or governance weaknesses involving GLCs, government-owned companies or entities using public funds, regardless of the political position of those involved.
It also urged stronger governance of GLCs through contract transparency, competitive procurement, conflict-of-interest declarations, effective audits and clear accountability mechanisms.
Reforms and education
On democratic reforms, the youth wing called for continued efforts by the government to strengthen the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 in line with the principles of a mature democracy.
“We do not want a country where people are allowed to speak only when their views align with those of the government. The Madani era must be one where the people are not afraid to speak up, and the government is not afraid to listen,” the statement said.
On education and youth mobility, it proposed that Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) students with a CGPA of 4.0 and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) students who achieve Mumtaz results be given priority for admission to public higher education institutions.
The proposal would allow students to select three preferred institutions, and be considered for admission to any of them, subject to programme requirements, available places and the needs of the respective fields of study.
Harapan Youth also wants outstanding achievement in Islamic education to be duly recognised,” the statement said, adding that it remained confident the government still had room to strengthen its mandate.
