Muda slams MPs' Parliament walkout, Haze: Stop open burning, public urged

Dewan Rakyat walkout

  • Muda has labelled PAS and Wawasan Negara MPs’ move to walk out from Parliament over unmet demands linked to the royal commission of inquiry’s report on Tabung Haji as an "embarrassing performance”.

Muda secretary-general Ainie Haziqah Shafiee praised Bersatu MPs who declined to participate in the boycott for executing their “real function” as parliamentarians.

Ainie lamented that despite receiving full salaries and allowances, other opposition MPs had abandoned the platform given to them to voice the rakyat’s concerns.

“Do not protest a government that refuses to answer by leaving the very place where the government should be forced to answer,” she added in a statement today.

  • Haze

  • The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department has urged members of the public to stop open burning, as transboundary haze from wildfires in Kalimantan spreads across Borneo and has begun to reach the state.

The haze has begun to affect visibility in the state, although the Air Pollutant Index Management System website still shows a “moderate” air quality in the state. Parts of Sarawak already show “unhealthy” air quality levels.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department director Pisar Aziz said high-risk groups, including asthma patients, children and the elderly, should take extra precautions despite the moderate Air Pollutant Index (API) readings, according to Bernama.

It should be noted that API readings for the main pollutant in haze, namely PM2.5, are averaged over 24 hours. This means the readings can be slow to respond to rapid changes in air quality. - Mkini
