'No information': PAS rep pans 'lazy' answer on Unisel

 

Sungai Ramal assemblyperson Shafie Ngah has described the Selangor government’s written response to his oral question concerning Universiti Selangor (Unisel) as “lazy”.

The PAS lawmaker said he received the written reply last week after the question could not be answered orally during the Selangor state legislative assembly sitting due to time constraints.

According to him, all three questions submitted by the PAS representative regarding Unisel were answered only with “no information”.

“Easy work, isn’t it?

“One of my 10 oral questions to the Selangor government during the recent state assembly sitting was as follows,” he said in a social media post today.

The questions concerned the methods used by the Unisel administration to promote the university and attract student enrolment, the number of students from China, and plans to establish institutions that could serve as a catalyst for attracting students.

Shafie said the question was supposed to be answered orally during the state assembly sitting, but due to insufficient time, it was subsequently answered in writing.

“It’s okay, as long as there is an answer.

“I received the written reply last week. Gentlemen, take a look at the answer!

“Lazy!” he said.

‘How is Unisel supposed to progress?’

Shafie also questioned how the university would advance if the state administration could not answer questions about efforts to attract students and recruit international students.

“How is Unisel supposed to progress?” he asked, while using the hashtag #SelangorDeservesBetter.

In the written reply document shared by Shafie, each of the three questions was answered with “No information”.

Malaysiakini is seeking clarification from the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office.

Previous Selangor state assembly sittings have similarly recorded questions on Unisel, but with a detailed response.

In a written reply in July 2024, the state government said Unisel had 264 international students, including 94 from China, who made up 36 percent of its international student population.

It said academic and marketing visits to China and Oman had been the most successful in attracting international students, and that Unisel planned further visits to other Chinese provinces to increase enrolment.

In the same July 2024 assembly sitting, the state government also gave detailed enrolment figures when asked about Unisel's undergraduate intake. - Mkini
