PETALING JAYA:
The Sarawak government is seeking to integrate state-owned airline AirBorneo’s operations with Kuching’s autonomous rapid transit (ART) network, allowing visitors to travel seamlessly from Kuching International Airport to hotels on a single ticket.

Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg said the proposal, which is being considered by AirBorneo and Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, would allow travellers to purchase a single ticket covering both their flight and trip to destinations near ART stations, where many hotels are expected to be located.

“Those who buy tickets from Kuala Lumpur will pay RM375 plus the ART fare for the trip to their hotels. Most hotels will be near our stations,” he was quoted by Dayak Daily as saying in Kuching today.

Abang Johari said staff at the control centre in Rembus, near Kuching, would be able to monitor the movement of ART vehicles through onboard cameras.

“This is for the convenience and safety of tourists. There will also be no cheating. You will get value for your money,” he said.

Abang Johari said ART fares would be highly subsidised by the state government. While he did not disclose the proposed fares, he said they would be benchmarked against similar systems elsewhere.

“I will try to make it cheaper than LRT fares,” he said. - FMT
