Thai cops bust syndicate attempting to smuggle syabu into Malaysia

 Thai authorities also arrested four syndicate members, including a 62-year-old woman.

Police said those arrested were Thai nationals.

Thai authorities have foiled a drug syndicate’s attempt to smuggle over 205kg of syabu, with an estimated street value of RM12.26 million, into Malaysia.

Police had conducted a series of raids in Hatyai on Friday and arrested four members of the syndicate, all of whom are Thai nationals, Kosmo reported.

It is believed the syndicate attempted to smuggle the drugs using a courier service.

Acting on a tip-off, Thai authorities arrested the first suspect, who was found to have several packages of syabu in his possession, at 9.30am.

Subsequent raids in the Khuan Lang sub-district led to the arrest of two accomplices at their homes.

“The first suspect was tasked with delivering the drugs to the two suspects,” a Thai police spokesman was quoted as saying.

The arrest of the trio led to a 62-year-old woman being nabbed on Sunday. The drugs were intended for smuggling into Malaysia through Pengkalan Kubor, Kelantan. - FMT
