Man rants at “Type C” for stealing water to wash car; netizens ask what has race got to do with it

A VIDEO detailing how a man was using water from a source not belonging to him has sparked a different sort of debate.

In the brief clip, an unidentified man – believed to be the owner of the restaurant where the water was being siphoned – ranted that a person was regularly using the tap outside a restaurant to wash his car.

The narrator in the video said it was unbecoming behaviour. More so as the person was driving a “luxury” ride in the shape of a Toyota Camry, surely he could afford to pay for a measly car wash.

While such theft is not to be condoned, the narrator saw fit to add a racial slur into the mix by claiming that this was typical of “Type C” (new slang to denote Malaysians of Chinese origin) behaviour.

The video shared by X user UpdateInfo (@update11111) has generated 131,800 views at the time of writing with quite a lively debate among netizens.

Quite a few of them were quick to point out what was the necessity to generalise using race when the restaurant owner should focus on the immoral act of stealing water which transcends racial boundary.

With one saying it would be shocking if race was NOT dragged into the discussion.

While one chided the very type of netizens above as “pious Malays” who will show up to defend “Type Cs”.

On the flip side, there were many who were quite happy to jump on the bandwagon to share their “observations” on the supposed anti-social behaviour of “Type Cs”.

With one insinuating that such behaviour was the wedge preventing a harmonious society.

Whilst some took the opportunity to simply fling racist invective.

Of course, there were many who were able to comment without resorting to racial slurs, noting this unauthorised car wash was simply unacceptable.

One netizen pointed out that this practice of unauthorised car washing was becoming all too frequent.

Whilst another sought to say that such ultra-stingy behaviour was also frowned upon by other “Type Cs”.

One thing is clear from this post and the accompanying comments. There would appear that many Malaysians seemingly cannot avoid filtering everything thorough race-tinted specs.

It is a damning indictment of the state of the nation’s affairs. If social media is a mirror of society, it isn’t a pretty reflection at all at the moment.

Video of 9-yo Chinese girl displaying incredible Shaolin martial arts skills wows netizens

A POST showcasing a nine-year-old child’s dexterity and sheer skills in martial art has charmed netizens the world over.

The video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by poster Science Girl (@gunsrosesgirl3) is of Zhang Sixuan who was crowned a “star” at the 2024 Shaolin Kung Fu competition.

According to PR News Wire Agency, the 2024 Shaolin Games came to a conclusion on July 14 in a vibrant celebration of martial arts and international camaraderie at Shaolin Temple on Mount Song in Henan, China.

The event featured stars from six continents with 144 contestants from 47 countries participating. A total of 10 champions were crowned the “2024 World Shaolin Kung Fu Stars”.

Clips of the young kung fu star has been making the rounds on social media, generating plenty of praise for Zhang’s extraordinary abilities.

This is a sample of what is being said.

With one comparing the young lass to an animated character with supreme martial arts skills.

While another noted the extreme discipline that is required to be able to pull off such moves.

However, one netizen noted that it is imperative that the child’s happiness is of the utmost importance, insinuating that such accomplishments cannot be achieved at the expense of the child’s emotional and mental well-being.

With another echoing those sentiments wondering if a nine-year-old actually enjoys the gruelling practice sessions required to achieve such levels of skill.

However, a few reckoned that the clip is reminiscent of actress Linda Blair’s contortionist act in the horror classic – The Exorcist.

One jokingly said this was not a child but a demo of China’s first self-autonomous robots!

Another netizen also quite succinctly pointed out that Zhang probably did not spend her entire day glued to a mobile device.

The wire story also notes that since debuting in 2022, the Shaolin Games have served as a cultural envoy for Shaolin, garnering attention from various cultural groups.

The event has received accolades and well-wishes from ambassadors, government officials, parliament members, and religious leaders worldwide.

Commendations from scholars, martial artists, authors, celebrities and numerous Shaolin disciples have also poured in, highlighting the event’s role in fostering cultural exchange.

Given how much attention this video has got on social and traditional media, perhaps the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry may want to think along similar lines with events to promote Malaysia and its martial arts heritage.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 — Bersih chairman Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz refuted his predecessor’s remark that labelled Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration as the “most dictatorial government”.

He acknowledged Ambiga Sreenevasan’s frustration with the slow pace of reform, noting that her sentiment was shared by civil society organisations, including Bersih.

“But to say that the present government is the ‘most dictatorial’ is seen to be quite extreme,” he said in a statement today.

Faisal went on to recount various points in Malaysia’s history that involved detentions without trial under the repealed Internal Security Act, including during “Ops Lalang” and the post-1998 “Reformasi” era.

He also cited the 1988 constitutional crisis, which led to amendments reducing the powers of the judiciar

“In the latest issue when the government intends to impose licensing laws on social media platforms, Bersih has stressed that it is a move that could potentially be used as a political weapon and so should not be rushed.

“Any government, including the present administration, could transform into a dictatorship unless civil society continues to call for reform,” he said.

He said without reforms, democracy will certainly whither, and even turn regressive.

“Similarly, without a democracy, it will close the space for implementation of reforms based on the people’s aspirations,” he said, adding that Bersih is committed to continuing the struggle for reforms.

“Therefore, the struggle to demand reforms and democracy should go hand-in-hand, realising that both are needed to strengthen the other,” he added.

On Monday, Ambiga, who led Bersih from 2011 to 2013, said she never imagined a Pakatan Harapan-led government would break its promises of reforming archaic laws, including the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA) 1984.

Her remarks were in response to a government announcement that all social media and internet messaging services with at least eight million registered users in the country must apply for a licence. - malaymail

Akta perlindungan data peribadi dipinda kerana kepesatan teknologi, kata Gobind

KUALA LUMPUR:

 katanya.
