MOT: Mavcom chairperson to receive pay cut

Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed today that the new Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) executive chairperson will be receiving a pay cut.
"As far as salary is concerned, the new chairman (of Mavcom) will definitely take a pay cut," he told reporters after flagging off a Porsche convoy to Bangkok in celebration of the company’s 70th anniversary today.
The transport minister added that he will be making an announcement regarding the quantum in the future.
On the appointment of a new chairperson, Loke said that he has recommended someone to the prime minister, but it is the prerogative of the latter to appoint.
"I hope the appointment will be made soon to ensure continuity in Mavcom. I thank the previous executive chairman for his services,” he said.
Former Mavcom chairperson Gen (Rtd) Abdullah Ahmad recently stepped down from his post in the aviation company in which he had served for more than two years.
The aviation company had received many complaints and criticisms both from members of the public and local airlines during Abdullah's tenure.
Following instructions from Mahathir for a salary review, Loke had revealed that Abdullah’s salary was approximately RM85,000 a month – nearly four times more than what the prime minister earns. -Mkini
