Najib cites Thomas' two-year-old article as 'sign of prejudice'

Former premier Najib Abdul Razak, in his originating ex-parte summons against attorney-general Tommy Thomas, has cited an article written by the latter, published in Malaysiakini two years ago, as a reason why he thinks it is prejudiced for Tommy to continue leading the prosecution in the graft case against him.
Najib, in his accompanying affidavit, said the article, titled "Grand Larceny in 1MDB" concluded that money had entered his account.
"Thomas's stand is clear that he does not like me, as portrayed in the article, and this causes concern that he may find ways to prefer a charge against me for any reason. Hence, I have lodged a report on June 18 following this.
"The article also shows that he has his own stand in this and I feel that I have not been given a just or fair consideration. Hence, Thomas is not qualified to be involved in the investigations," he said.
Najib has through his lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, also sought for Thomas to be removed from leading the prosecution team.
It was reported on Friday that Najib had filed three separate suits against Thomas, MACC chief commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull and the federal police's Commercial Crime investigation director Amar Singh.
The suits were filed against the three on June 30.
Meanwhile, Najib's contention on Shukri is the MACC chief's integrity and professionalism following the latter's "tell all" press conference following the regime change.
"During the press conference, Shukri was emotional and vengeful and portrayed me as being guilty. Hence, he is not qualified to head the Macc investigations and be a member of the 1MDB taskforce formed by the Council of Eminent Persons," he said.
Amar, Najib said, was the individual responsible in leading the raid on premises linked to him and his family.
The former Umno president claimed that he had lodged several reports against Amar for violating the standard operating procedure and hence, the senior police officer is not qualified to advise the 1MDB special task force.
The case management for these cases has been fixed on July 16. - Mkini
