Penang Island Link highway EIA report on public display

The Penang state government has put the Environment Impact Assessment report for the proposed Penang Island Link (PIL 1) highway project on public display.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this is part of the processing procedure prescribed under the Environmental Impact Assessment Guidelines in Malaysia.
Saying the guidelines are enforced by the Department of Environment Malaysia, Chow added that the public display for the EIA report will be on from July 11 to August 10 (30 days).
"The Penang government and the EIA consultant will respond to the DOE on all the written comments received from the public during the display period," Chow said at a press conference.
"Feedback received from the public will be addressed by the state government and submitted to the DOE headquarters for review," he added.
"The state's responses will be included in the final EIA report for the project," he stressed.
The PIL 1 highway project will be implemented under the first phase of the Penang Transport Master Plan.
Chow said upon completion, the highway will be a major step towards "significantly improving" the road network and alleviate traffic congestion on the island.
"Strict mitigation measures, as prescribed in the EIA report, will be adhered to in implementing the project to ensure minimal disruption to the environment and interference to public daily activities," Chow said.
The highway’s EIA report is being displayed at 10 locations such as the Penang City Council and the Seberang Perai Municipal Council. The complete list of locations and online viewing links can be found here. - Mkini
