Police have begun investigations on a teacher from a primary school in Ampang who is alleged to have molested his 10-year old pupil.
According to Selangor Criminal Investigation Department senior assistant commissioner Fadzil Ahmat, the 53-year old suspect was detained in Ampang at 2pm today.
"Police will request for the remand for the suspect tomorrow," he said in a statement.
Fadzil said that the suspect had been arrested in 2011 when he was a teacher at a school at Kajang.
He added, however, that the investigation was halted as the complainant retracted the police report.
On Monday, the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) had pledged to investigate the pupil’s allegations of sexual assault.
The incident came to light after the pupil told her parents about the teacher’s inappropriate behaviour towards her.
A family friend then shared the incident in a Facebook post, claiming the suspect had harassed the victim during a class on May 25.
"The victim told her mother that the teacher had invited her into a classroom on the pretext of helping him with marking examination papers.
“In the room, the teacher pulled the victim's hand and asked her to sit on his lap. He then touched her private parts.
"There were three other students in the room who witnessed this," she said.
The victim also revealed that some of her friends had been harassed by the suspect in separate incidents, said the family friend.
In his statement, Fadzil urged other victims of the suspect to step forward and lodge reports. - Mkini
