POLICE TO ARREST NAJIB OVER MASSIVE ‘TREASURE TROVES’ FOUND IN RAIDS AT HIS HOMES? LAWYER DENIES COPS HAVE QUIZZED EX-PM OVER THE SEIZED CASH & VALUABLES – EVEN AS DEPUTY IGP SAYS HE EXPECTS TO RECEIVE ‘LETTER FROM PUBLIC PROSECUTOR IN THE NEAR FUTURE’

THE federal commercial crime police department CCID has yet to record any statement from former prime minister Najib Razak regarding the items seized from residences linked to him – his lawyer Badrul Hisham Abdullah said.
Badrul said this after Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim earlier today said his men have already recorded the Pekan MP’s statement over the matter.
“I can confirm that no one from the commercial crime unit have come to record Najib’s statement over the seizures of items at his home or properties linked to him,” Badrul told The Malaysian Insight.
“How did Noor Rashid come up with the statement, you have to ask him. On our side I can confirm to you that no statement was recorded,” he added.
In Kuching today, Noor Rashid told the press that police have called up and recorded Najib’s statement.
“I feel he has been called and his statements taken three or four days ago… have to check with Amar Singh Ishar Singh (Commercial Crime Investigation Department director),” he said.
“Many more things have to be scrutinised, take statements from witnesses and in the near future we will receive the letter from the public prosecutor.”
Amar, on the other hand, told The Malaysian Insight that he is verifying the matter.
“I will have to check before I can say anything,” he said.
Recently, Najib through his lawyers have withdrawn his suit against Attorney-General Tommy Thomas, Amar and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Mohd Shukri Abdull.
Amar and Shukri lead the investigations into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal while Thomas is leading the prosecution against Najib after he has been charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust and one count of corruption.
Badrul confirmed the withdrawal, saying that the case needed to be realigned as “the scenario has changed”.
He said he would make adjustments to the suits before submitting fresh ones.
Najib’s law firm had earlier said it was seeking a court decision on whether there was “an element of conflict of interest” among those handling the case.
