PKR parliamentary whip Johari Abdul is set to become the new Dewan Rakyat speaker, according to The Star.
The name of the Sungai Petani MP had reportedly been put forward during a Pakatan Harapan meeting on Monday.
Earlier today, PKR president and Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad would likely make the announcement either today or tomorrow.
Speculation had been rife that former cultural adviser to the government Rais Yatim would be appointed the Dewan Rakyat speaker.
The Pakatan Harapan manifesto, however, states that the speaker would be chosen from among elected representatives.
The first sitting of Parliament after the 14th general election is scheduled for next Monday. -Mkini
