Singapore should be aware of Putrajaya's stand with regard to the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR), said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"(As far as the) Singapore government is concerned, we have not given a full notice yet, but they should know what is it we want to do," he told a press conference in Putrajaya this morning.
Pressed on what exactly Malaysia wanted to do, he quipped, "You should read your own news."
Mahathir had previously said that Malaysia intended to scrap the HSR project due to its high costs.
Yesterday, the Singapore government said Putrajaya has yet to respond to its diplomatic note sent on June 1 regarding the project.
The note inquired about Malaysia's position on the project as Singapore continues to incur costs.
Responding to the HSR project, Mahathir said they have to be careful about announcing their decision as it could affect the market.
"When we make a decision and announce it, the market reacts negatively.
"The market apparently likes to be told lies about how good everything is so that they will give you good marks.
"But if we tell them that we have discovered a lot of wrongdoing, they react by running away with their money, stop investing and all that," he said.
On the contrary, he said, what the Pakatan Harapan government is doing now is to ensure all transaction are done properly.
