Umno Youth information chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah says the Bukit Gelugor MP should apologise for insulting the Dewan Rakyat.
PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has rapped Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh over his “arrogance” and refusal to retract the gangster label he made against the wing during the Dewan Rakyat proceedings today.
Umno Youth information chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah said this clearly showed how Ramkarpal did not respect the parliamentary institution and the position of the Dewan Rakyat speaker chosen by his own Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties.
“It also shows the mentality and maturity of the PH MP who is still unable to get rid of the opposition DNA in himself as he is still playing up sentiments of labelling the opposing parties.
“The attitude of rebelling also shows that they are not portraying themselves as a government in the august house,” he said in a statement.
Shahar, who is also Paya Besar MP, said that as an elected MP in the “new Malaysia”, Ramkarpal should uphold high morals and cultural values during the debate as Parliament is an institution rich in protocols and customs.
“Hence, the proceedings must also be carried out in a cultured manner,” he said.
Shahar also thanked Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof for being firm and professional in bringing the house to order and also taking action against Ramkarpal.
This was important to ensure other MPs also respected the ongoing proceedings.
“We would like to urge Ramkarpal to be a responsible parliamentarian and be big-hearted enough to apologise over his act in insulting such a noble institution.
“Since he has refused to do so, it is fair that stern action be taken against him,” he added.
Ramkarpal was ejected from the Dewan Rakyat for failing to retract his statement calling Umno Youth “gangsters”.
The decision was made by Dewan Rakyat speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.
Ramkarpal had called Umno Youth members “gangsters” in reference to an incident several years ago when his father, Karpal Singh, was surrounded and mobbed by 30 of them at the Parliament lobby. - FMT
