Another 16 people have been arrested over the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple fracas in Subang Jaya, bringing the total number of those arrested to 99.
This was revealed by the inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun today, adding that these individuals, who were linked to scuffles and riots at the temple on Nov 26 and 27, were picked up in the Klang Valley.
"The number of arrests updated as of 8am today is 99," Fuzi told reporters in a media conference at the Police Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.
Earlier, Fuzi witnessed the ceremonial handing over of duties between retired Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Amar Singh and his successor, CCID deputy director Saiful Azly Kamaruddin.
Yesterday, Fuzi announced that 83 people had so far been arrested to facilitate investigation into the incidents.
The incidents took place last week following a dispute over the relocation of the temple, which resulted in the destruction of several vehicles and business premises, as well as severe injuries to firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who is currently being treated at the National Heart Institute. - Mkini
