AmBank founder’s son cries foul over blackmail attempts on death threats

Pascal Najadi claims he has been subjected to blackmail attempts by an apparent fraudster.
PETALING JAYA: The son of AmBank founder Hussain Najadi, who was shot dead in Kuala Lumpur five years ago, claims he has been subjected to blackmail attempts by an apparent fraudster seeking money in exchange for details on an assassination plot against him.
According to a statement by merchant finance advisory firm Najadi & Partners Sdn Bhd, Pascal Najadi received emails to his personal email address earlier this week under the subject heading “Top Secret: Assassination Plot”.
The emails claimed to have “intelligence information” about a plan to assassinate Pascal.
Pascal, who currently resides in Moscow, Russia, has informed the Russian Federal Security Service of the threat, saying he is concerned that anyone should make such “vicious overtures” to someone in his situation.
“I am forced to take such matters seriously when the assassination of my father remains unresolved,” he said in the statement.
The anonymous emailer, who uses the ProtonMail address GR432990, claimed to be able to pass him the name of the person/persons behind the plot along with emails and audio evidence to prove the plot.
However, the emailer would only do so on the production of 10 bitcoins to an anonymous address, 3NkLLe2rSSymAgRLAwyunppKayVcStZmxX.
Pascal said he was aware that a number of other individuals associated with 1MDB had also been approached by the same individual or syndicate making similar threats or seeking money for alleged information. This includes claims of knowledge regarding the whereabouts of the alleged mastermind of 1MDB, Low Taek Jho.
“One thing these approaches seem to have in common is the same ProtonMail ID, GR432990, and in at least one case the same bitcoin account has been used in the demands to receive money,” he said, adding however that other bitcoin accounts appeared to have been used in various demands as well.
He welcomed information from anyone who might have received similar threats and emails, saying any such information could be forwarded to security@najadi.ru.
“It is hard to think how anyone could sink so low to attempt to profit in such a way. This dangerous and despicable individual needs to be caught and punished,” he said.
Pascal’s father, Hussain, was gunned down in the parking lot of the Kuan Yin temple in Lorong Ceylon on July 29, 2013.
He was shot twice in the chest while his widow, Cheong Mei Kuen, was hit on the left hand and right leg.
In October last year, former tow truck driver Koong Swee Kuan was sentenced to death for Hussain’s murder, as well as 18 years’ jail for the attempted murder of Cheong. -FMT
