PETALING JAYA: Former MP for Kulim-Bandar Bahru Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir today officially stepped down as the executive chairman of Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd (UUMB), six months after being appointed to the post.
His resignation was announced by Utusan in a filing to Bursa Malaysia.
The resignation comes two weeks after Aziz began downsizing operations at the Umno-owned company.
UUMB said Aziz’s resignation was due to his other business commitments.
On June 7, Aziz was appointed as the UUMB executive chairman following the voluntary resignation of its four directors, which included former chairman Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh.
UUMB today also announced other boardroom changes.
This includes the redesignation of Ibrahim Yahaya as an executive director as well as the appointment of former Kuala Selangor MP Irmohizam Ibrahim as the company’s independent and non-executive director.
Previously, Utusan offered a voluntary separation scheme (VSS) to 800 of its 1,500 staff as part of efforts to cut operational costs. - FMT
