Approximately 20 cars broke down along the Sungai Besi Highway (Besraya) after fuelling at a nearby Petronas station this morning.
Taking to social media, Petronas Dagang Berhad (PDB) apologised for the incident, which it attributed to "product mishandling".
"PDB regrets to inform that approximately 20 cars were affected after fuelling at the Petronas Station Solaris Besraya this morning.
“Our initial assessment indicates that this is due to mishandling of product that happened at this particular station. Petronas Solaris Besraya is now temporarily closed as we continue our investigations,” PDB said in a statement.
“We take this matter seriously and sincerely apologise to all our customers for the inconveniences this has caused.
“We are already in contact with the affected customers, taking the necessary measures and will compensate them accordingly," said PDB.
While PDB did not reveal the exact cause of the incident, netizens took to social media to speculate that it was the result of the petrol storage tanks not being properly shut, resulting in water mixing with the fuel, while others claimed that the problem stemmed from the operators filling the petrol pumps with diesel instead.
